Trial of Former Chadian President Has Begun



Former Chadian dictator Hissene Habre, has begun answering to charges of crimes against humanity, in a Senegalese court.
This trial which began today July 20, 2015, is historical as he was brought to the court by force, and is the first African leader ever, to be put on trial, in another African country.
Hissene Habre is accused of authorizing the detention, torture and killings of thousands of his country men, while he was in power from 1982 to 1990.
The trial marks the end of a fifteen-year battle to bring him to justice in Senegal where he has lived in exile after being toppled in a coup.
If found guilty the 72-year-old faces sentences ranging from 30 years to life with hard labour.
