This car, is made in Cameroon. I kid you not!! It is on display at PROMOTE 2014. It was fabricated by engineering students at the Institut Universitaire de la Cote in Douala.
It runs on a 1 horse power engine, and is said to be very economical. It isnot yet bring commercialized because its makers need funds for mass production.
Well done to the students.
Meanwhile, this other car, is an American ChevyVolt. It's a Hybrid Chevrolet, simply put, it's a Chevrolet which runs on both Electricity and Fuel. Independently. Let me explain. For short commutes or city movement, you can use this car all day, and then charge it all night long, just like a mobile phone. For long distance travel, you can power it using fuel.
I asked the U.S Embassy representative(the car is displayed at the U.S Pavillion), how practical this car is, in terms of mainatance. He says as soon as there is substantial interest from Cameroon businessmen, then there won't be a problem of getting spare parts. He added that the energy challenges also need to be addressed in Cameroon.
He was evasive on the cost of the car, but intimated that it could cost about $30,000 (FCFA15Million)
