Eid Prayers Marked By Heavy Security

Yesterdays Eid el Fitr prayer sessions in mosques and prayer grounds across the country was marked by the presence of Police officers. At the entrance to prayer grounds in Yaounde, (Tsinga, Multisports centre, Etoudi, Omnisport etc), everyone was searched before allowed access.
The above photo was taken in Douala, which indicates that the security presence may have been a nationwide measure.

This measure is certainly a result of the recent double suicide bombings in Fotokol, Far North Region, which saw two female suicide bombers blow themselves up just as Muslims broke the Ramadan fast last sunday.
At the Etoudi Mosque in Yaounde, Imam Aboubakar Abdoulhahi described Islam as a religion which professes peace and condemned the recent bombings.
He called on Muslims to be upright and shun idleness.
