Lionel Messi's Visit to Gabon Sparks Criticism

Lionel Messi, four-time world player of the year, was in Gabon on Saturday July 18, 2015 to lay the foundation stone for a stadium in Port Gentil, where 2017 Nations Cup matches will be played.
The visit of the Barcelona star, however, did not win the approval of everyone in the country.
Social media went abuzz with many criticizing the star's visit, and questioning how much it cost to
bring him in.
Gabonese President Ali Ben Bongo is a huge football fan, and in 2012 invited Brazillian football icon, Pele for a five day visit. He is said to have doled out FCFA 2.5 billion for that visit alone.
