Maroua University Rector Refutes Rumors That Student Was One of SuicideBombers

The rector of the University of Maroua, Professor Ako Edward Oben, has refuted allegations that a University of Maroua student was one of the female suicide bombers who wrecked havoc on Wednesday July 22 in Maroua.
It is not clear what sparked the rumor, which made the rounds online and in some newspaper publications, that female student Oumahani Lawane of the Chemistry Department, was one of the bombers.
The young lady who is recovering at the Maroua Regional hospital, after losing consciousness,
following the blasts, said she had gone to the Maroua Central Market to shop when the macabre incident occurred.
Her story was corroborated by the Rector of the University, who spoke with reporters yesterday afternoon, after visiting Oumahani Lawane at the hospital. He says she is nothing but a victim, just like the others who were found on the scene at the time the suicide bombers detonated themselves.
