Over 100 Corpses Abandoned In Douala To Be Buried This Thursday

It's unfortunate but a mass burial will be conducted for the 120 corpses which have remained unclaimed in several public hospitals in Douala.
The SDO for Wouri , Naseri Paul Bea, set up a special commission to look into the matter after repeated complaints from mortuaries about abandoned corpses. Some of these corpses have been left in mortuaries for
as long as one year.
The commission found out that the majorities of the bodies are those of accident victims, bandits, mental patients and corpses left by families unable to pay mortuary fees. It has thus been decided that the corpses will be buried in a mass grave in Douala. Unofficial sources state that this could take place at the "Bois des Singes" cemetery, in the Yupwe neighborhood on the outskirts of Douala.
This isn't the first time such is happening. Just wondering whether a family can actually know that their loved one's corpse is somewhere, and actually abandon the body. Besides the reasons I cited above, what do you guys think could possibly push people to abandon a corpse?
