Fire Destroys Dozens Of Shops In Bonamoussadi Market in Douala

It's going to be a sad end of year for some traders at the Bonamoussadi market in Douala. A fire broke out in the market last night Friday November 28, at about 11pm. Most of the over 30 shops which were destroyed in the section where chicken is sold, but the fire is also reported to have destroyed 10 Boutiques dealing in ready-made clothing.

It took the determined population and firefighters about 3hours to put out the raging flames. Initial estimates put the damage at about FCFA100 million. 

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, but this is not he first time a fire has broken out in the Bonamoussadi market.

Breaking: OMG! Anne Nsang Is Dead

          

OMG, OMG, This is so heart-breaking. The iconic Cameroonian journalist Anne Nkwain Nsang, is dead. Barely weeks after she lost her father, Senator Francis Nkwain,  Mrs. Anne Nsang died aboard a flight back to the U.S. She was returning after her father's funeral to the U.S where she had been receiving treatment for lung cancer. She had been sick for a while.

Can't believe that I am writing this, that the legendary presenter of 'Women and Development' on Crtv in the 90's, is no more.
She was currently working at the United Nations Information Center as National Information Officer.

Alcohol To No Longer Be Sold To Minors

The minister of Public Health has launched a campaign to ban the sale of alcohol to minors. The campaign launched this week is in partnership with Guiness Cameroun S.A, which will see the brewery company undertake a nationwide sensitisation campaign in colleges and high schools to educate students and youths in general on the need to shun alcohol.

Statistics show that 2.5 million people die each year around the world from alcohol abuse. 

While I wonder how this ban on the sale of alcohol to minors will be enforced, (will they tell bar tenders and shop owners to request ID cards from buyers, to show proof of age?), I must say that the

 alcohol issue in young people is a serious one. Holidays, are approaching, Christmas and New Year will soon be here, please if you are a minor, abstain from alcohol, it is detrimental to your well being. Don't succumb to peer pressure, una don hear?

More Details On FECAFOOT Polls Postponement

                 

Here's how the BBC is reporting the FECAFOOT election postponement saga.

Cameroon’s minister of social security, Gregoire Owona, and sports and physical education minister Adoum Garoua travelled to Fifa headquarters in Switzerland to outline some concerns over the polls.
Their main worry was over possible violence should the elections go ahead as planned after several potential candidates were deemed ineligible to stand.

Breaking: FECAFOOT Elections Postponed Till Next Year

                    

I knew it!! The FECAFOOT general election initially slated for tomorrow Saturday,  November 29, has been postponed till next year, Feb 28 2015. This decision is contained in a letter by the Secretary General of FIFA, Jerome Valcke. 

The delegates were already in town for tomorrow's election at the Mont Febe Hotel, but like i stated yesterday, it was uncertain and unlikely that the election would hold.

President Paul Biya and Wife In Senegal For Francophinie Heads Of States Summit

The Head of State, President Paul Biya has arrived Dakar Senegal, he left Yaounde today Friday November 28 , with his wife, Mrs Chantal Biya, to take part in the 15th Summit of Heads of States and Government of the Francophonie. The conference will run from November 29 to 30.

Over 70 heads of state and government are expected at the summit which could be referred to as the French equivalent of the Common Wealth of Nations.

The summit will focus on the role of women and youths as actors of peace and development.

The Cameroon Cadet Lions will participate in the 2015 African U17 Championship holding in Niger. They sailed through after the Confederation of African Football, CAF, yesterday confirmed its stance to disqualify the Black Starlets of Ghana, over age-cheating claims.

Uncertainty Looms Over FECAFOOT General Elections Slated For SaturdayNov 29

                                    

It is now clear that only Tombi a Roko Sidiki's list has sailed through, and he is the unique candidate for the post of FECAFOOT president.

What is uncertain is whether the election slated for Saturday Nov 29, will hold. Joseph Owona who is at the head of the FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee has however refused to respond to questions by reporters, as to whether or not, the election will be postponed. 

The Federation's Technical secretariat this afternoon confirmed the sole candidature of Tombi. The 5 other candidates are thus officially out of the race.

Good news for mobile telephone users. MTN Cameroon has just announced a significant drop in the cost of making calls. One minute will now cost 30frs or half franc per second. This new tariff offer is one of the most competitive on the market.

'Ble Ble' (Nkiru Sylvanus) is now a Director General

She will for ever be remembered for her cry-cry, sorry, iconic role in the movie 'A Cry For Help'. Nkiru Sylvanus, who is no longer very active in acting these days, has been appointed Director General of the Imo Film Academy. A ceremony in her honour took place recently with several of her colleagues there to show support. Clem Ohameze, Emeka Rollas, Comedian Okey McAnthony, Vitalis Ndubisi and many more. 

This is not her first political appointment. She was until July last year, Special Assistant to a State Governor. She was rumored to have been offering the governor, some special privileges, hence her special assignment. Lol

3-Year Old Accidentally Shoots Mom To Death

This young mom, 26 year old Crista Engles, was accidentally shot dead by her 3 year old son at their home as she was attending to her 1 year old daughter.
According NBC News, the little boy shot and killed his mother after finding a loaded semi-automatic handgun in their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma yesterday November 25th.

Bell, Nyongha and Penne Reject FECAFOOT Offer

                                        

The FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee had given the candidates, who had last week thursday, been declared in eligible, up until 3.30pm this afternoon to deposit their files to run as president.

However, in an interesting turn of events, three of the candidates have in turn rejected this offer. 

They are Joseph Antoine Bell, Jules Nyongha and Robert Penne. 

The trio announced this in a press conference yesterday in Yaounde. They stated that they are not willing to proceed with the process and because all FECAFOOT wants is to render the election credible. They have therefore called for an annulment of the electoral process and a fresh start.

15 Cameroonians and a Polish Priest Freed From Captivity Last Night

                                       

A Special operation by Cameroon's armed forces has led to the release of 15 Cameroonians who were taken hostage in October, in the East region, on two separate raids, as well as a Polish Priest, who was captured since October 12, 2014. They were kidnapped by a rebel group of the Central African Republic, known as the'Democratic Front of Central African People.

They were released overnight. A press release signed by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngo Ngo, states that the Head of State salutes the Cameroon armed forces for their bravery during the operation, and recognizes the important mediation role played by President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

This Day In History: Nov 26 2011

         

November 25 2011, I left work at about 5pm, to go for a routine weekly antenatal check up at Dr. Ako's clinic.  He finally attended to me at about 7.30 pm, and what he told me, when he examined me, I wasn't prepared for. He said "Moity, I can feel your baby's head, you're already in labour."

I wasn't expecting it because I was 37 weeks pregnant and still had 3 weeks to go(or so I thought). 

My gyny asked me to go home and return first thing the next morning, that is if I didn't go into active labour that night.

The New Moderator of The P.C.C is Reverend Fonki Samuel

Reverend Fonki Samuel Forba is the new moderator of Presbyterian Church in Cameroon. He was elected yesterday during the 47th Synod of the P.C.C in Bamenda. He had the upper hand over Reverend Abwenzo Williams, whom he won 74 votes against 46.

Reverend Babila Foncham was also elected Synod Clerk of the P.C.C with 70 votes against 47 for Reverend Christian Nganji

The new moderator of the P.C.C was up till now the Presbyterial Secretary of the East Mungo North Presbytery of the P.C.C and Parish Pastor of Presbyterian Church Bastos, Yaounde. He takes over from the Right Reverend Festus Asan as Moderator, who goes on retirement.

Did Samuel Etoo Just Get Married ?

          

If this picture is anything to go by, then, it seems like the retired Cameroonian striker is officially off the market. Samuel Etoo and his longtime partner Gerogette Tra Lou are reported to have said their "I Do's" in Lombardy, Italy. The civil status union, took place in the presence of Etoos  children Maelle, Etienne, Sienna and Lynn (Georgette is the mother of two of the kids, Sienna and Lynn) and a few close family and friends. The bride was dressed in white and held a wedding bouquet.

According to Italian sports website sport.sky.it , the secret wedding took place this Monday November 24.

Thought the dude got married in July 2007,  but if this information is correct, then, congratulations to the newly-weds.

Etoo really seems smitten by his lady. Recently at the X-Maleya concert in Paris where he performed with the trio on stage to the song dedicated to him, Etoo at the end of the performance gave a shout out to Georgette, saying very loud and clear on the stage "Cherie je t'aime" . My wife and i started trying to have a child 2 years ago but its not working. I found out last year that my sperm are a little inactive, not infertile, but that we would need help.

Over the last two years my wife has been telling me that "i don't love her" because I don't give her her baby. The last 3 weeks have been terrible, I had a car accident which completely damaged my car. Thank God I was lucky to come out of it unharmed, yet the same night she insisted we should get her pregnant in case i could die. Please someone tell me, is having a baby a do or die affair for women? She acts like its my fault. What do I do?

Valery Mezague Died Of Cardiac Arrest

              

The late Cameroonian footballer Valery Mezague was suffering from heart disease. Mezague who died a few weeks shy of his 31st birthday, had an enlarged heart, which gave way on November 15, 2014. 

This is the result of the autopsy carried out by the Marseille Forensic institute last week.

Sad time for the Nigerian musical duo, the P-Square brothers Peter and Paul Okoye. They lost their dad yesterday November 24. This is just two years after their mom died. 

Mr. Okoye is reported to have had a successful knee surgery recently. He was going for physiotherapy when he fell and that fall cost him his life.

Parents of Ugandan Baby Beaten By Nanny Go To Police Head Quarters

Here's the innocent little baby who was tortured by a maid in Uganda. Her parents went to see the country's Ispector General of Police, Kale Kayihura today. The I.G promised that the little baby will get justice. It should be recalled that the maid was sentenced to 3 years in prison, but many see that sentence as inadequate, given the horrendous beating she inflicted on the little girl.

If you are like me, then you haven't watched the cruel video online, because I just don't have the heart to view it, and when I see the accounts of people who have, I shudder.

Y'all know Dencia right,(who doesn't know the Cameroonian-born, U.S-based musician and queen of 'Whitenecious' cream). Anyway, she was in Los Angeles, California, last night, at the Nokia Theatre for the 42nd American Music Awards. She stepped out of her Limo and bam! She was mistaken for U.S music star Nicki Minaj by E! 

This is not the first case of mistaken identity for our very own Dencia. Earlier this year, at the Grammys, several U.S networks mistook her for Nicki.

Update On Explosion At Cooking Gas Depot In Santa Barbara Yaounde

                 

There are updates on the casualties of the explosion which happened Saturday at the cooking gas depot in Santa Barbara, Yaounde. It has emerged that a number of people died. There are no official numbers of the people who died because there is still some level of confusion, but unconfirmed reports state that the numbers are between 8 and 11 persons (given that there were a number of workers at the depot, who were illegally siphoning the cooking gas from one bottle to another). 

The electricity situation in Yaounde is gradually being handled, as this morning, electricity had been restored in some neighbourhoods.

Cotton Sport Is Winner of 2014 Cup Of Cameroon!

            

Cotton Sport of Garoua has just earned their 6th title as Winners of the Cup Of Cameroon. They just won Panthere of Nde 2- 0. The first goal was scored by Cotton striker Daouda Kamilou, at the 80th minute.The 55th National Football Final, was a suspense-filled game, with Panthere giving Cotton a run for their money. The first half saw two equally determined teams, each one finding it difficult to puncture the other's defence.

New York Police Officer Shoots Unarmed Black Man

         

Another case of an unarmed black man gunned down in the U.S, has surfaced. The unarmed 28 year old Brooklyn man was shot dead on Thursday night November 20th and police say it was just an 'unfortunate tragedy' because he wasn't targeted.

Window Cleaner Lands On Moving Car After Falling From 11-Storey Building

       

The man is so lucky to be alive!

The window cleaner was working on an 11-storey building in San Francisco, U.S.A, when he slipped and fell, plummeting to a moving car. He hit this Toyota Camry before ending up on the ground. The roof of the car was crushed by the force of the impact, but the driver, Mohammad Alcozai got out un harmed. The driver says he had just taken a turn, when he saw something hit his car very hard. He immediately pulled over, and came to the rescue of the worker.

The unnamed worker was taken to the city's General Hospital with critical injuries, and has had to undergo surgery.
