An explosion yesterday evening, (Saturday November 22) at a gas bottle warehouse in Santa Barbara, Yaounde, has left half of the city of Yaounde without any electricity. The explosion has been linked to illegal siphoning of gas from one bottle to another. The nefarious activity led to the explosion which saw gas bottles flying in several directions, and inhabitants fearing for the worst. The gas depot is said to have contained about
3000 bottles and some lorries stationed inside.

The rooftops of some homes and a nearby school are said to have been damaged. Gas bottles are strewn around the area. People are reported to have been rushed to hospital for injuries, but the number is unclear. The National Electricity Company ENEO, has been working hard to restore electricity, as even the Yaounde General Hospital line was affected. ENEO officials say electricity could be restored by this evening.
