The minister of Public Health has launched a campaign to ban the sale of alcohol to minors. The campaign launched this week is in partnership with Guiness Cameroun S.A, which will see the brewery company undertake a nationwide sensitisation campaign in colleges and high schools to educate students and youths in general on the need to shun alcohol.
Statistics show that 2.5 million people die each year around the world from alcohol abuse.
While I wonder how this ban on the sale of alcohol to minors will be enforced, (will they tell bar tenders and shop owners to request ID cards from buyers, to show proof of age?), I must say that the
alcohol issue in young people is a serious one. Holidays, are approaching, Christmas and New Year will soon be here, please if you are a minor, abstain from alcohol, it is detrimental to your well being. Don't succumb to peer pressure, una don hear?

This is just a way for the minister of Public Health to disgrace himself b/c this can never work, he is day dreaming. Does he want these young guys to go on strike? Cameroon tops the lead in Africa in the consumption of beer and alcoholic products and I can say without mincing words that it is in our blood; though I hardly take alcohol.
By rough statistics 9 out of 10 Cameroonians consume alcohol.
I've seen a child of 3 preferring beer to a soft drink.
Gideon, you scare me with your stats. 1. Cameroon doesn't top in Africa for Alcohol consumption. Check Uganda. 2.In our blood? 3. 9/10? Can we have a reference?
It's a campaign and this is our country. He has passed the bill. It will only take you(minus your resignation) and I to make it work. Spread the word. Watch minors and Be the change.
lol at the first comment.some cameroonians drink as if their lives depend on alcohol.BTW,it's a good thing they thought about this campaign.i really pity some of these young kids who don't care about the consequences of the abuse of alcohol
its time some get a foothold on this alcohol madness. Difficult to police but a good police at-least it raises the issue of alcohol abuse in our society that see those who drink every night and day as well off individuals. Its a health hazard to consume alcohol in the volume we do in Cameroon.
Just another means to enrich the hungry police.they will start checking ID cards in bars now if you do not have then u pay 500frs cfa
