A Fire broke out at about 2pm yesterday, Sunday January 11, at the Bandjoun Palace. The fire is said to have started in one of the buildings situated at the entrance to the Palace. Inspite of efforts by the population, the strong winds extended the fire to some neighbouring buildings as well. It took the combined efforts of Soldiers, fire fighters and the population, to bring the fire under control. A total of fifteen buildings were reduced to ashes. Fortunately, the Royal Palace Musuem with its priceless artifacts, wasn't  touched.

The Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine came to the scene to show sympathy for the Traditional Ruler of Bandjoun, Senator Djomo Kamga Honore. He also called for measures to avert a future disaster. It is second time the Bandjoun palace is consumed by fire in 10 years.
