Remember Nsam

February 14 1998. Many young people were looking forward to going to watch the 'Kassav' group perform in Yaounde that evening. Others were looking forward to tender moments with their lovers that Valentine's Day.
Early that Saturday morning, exactly like today, two fuel-laden wagons derailed in the Nsam neighbourhood in  Yaounde.
The local population could not resist the temptation of Scooping the free fuel.
Then the worst happened. A fire broke out.
Hundreds of people, burned to death, some charred beyond recognition.
Others were fortunate to be alive, but were left with terrible scars.
As you celebrate love today, spare a moment for the memory of these Cameroonians.

Yes they should be remembered and those of Lake Nyos should also be given even more respect than those who wanted to get rich overnight by stealing fuel. But rather the reverse is true.
