Claudia Aderotomi died within hours of the industrial grade liquid being injected into her buttocks as a birthday treat to herself. The silicone used was the type used to lubricate military tanks, a court heard.
The 20-year-old, from Hackney, east London, had travelled to the US to have the injections from backstreet surgeon, Padge Windslowe, also known as the rapper Black Madam.
A court in Philadelphia this week heard that Miss Aderotomi began having trouble breathing almost immediately after the injections and died in hospital.
A coroner ruled the industrial-grade silicone spread to her lungs and brain and caused a pulmonary embolism.
Windslowe, 43, is on trial for third degree murder.
Prosecutor Carlos Vega said Windslowe had no medical training but told clients she was a “nurse-practitioner” who worked with a cosmetic surgeon and had done hundreds of injections.
“What they didn’t know was that this was not medical-grade silicone but silicone for machines, for use on tanks by the military and to lubricate car engines. It was poison,” Mr Vega said.
He said Windslowe fled the hotel room in Philadelphia where Miss Aderotomi had the injection after she began to have problems breathing.
Despite a nationwide hunt for her after Miss Aderotomi’s death, Windslowe continued to carry out butt injections at so called “pumping parties”, the court heard.
Lawyers for Windslowe, an aspiring rapper called Black Madam, told the court she had “no idea” the silicone she was using was harmful.
The trial continues.
