10 people are reported to have died and about 20 others injured (6 of them in critical condition), after a violent collision between a bus transporting students, and a Prado, along the Buea-Kumba road in the South West Region.
The students of the Panafrican Institute of Buea are said to have been travelling for an excursion as part of activities marking the 49th edition of the National Youth Day. The circumstances leading to he fatal crash are not clear, but gendarmerie sources cite excessive speed as a factor.
The injured are receiving medical attention in Buea, while awaiting evacuation to the Douala General Hospital.

Route safety authorities should be stricter and heavier fees should be paid for high speed.
