Gunmen Open Fire On Police In Marseille France

Hooded gunmen armed with Kalashnikov rifles at 10am local time today Monday February 09, fired on police in the French city of Marseille.
Elite police troops were being sent to the scene, in the northern suburbs of the Mediterranean port city, after the shots were fired.
The incident happened as Prime Minister Manuel Valls was paying a visit.
The area where the shooting occurred is the birth place of iconic French footballer, Zinedine Zidane.

The attack is thought to have targeted the police chief.
It comes as France is under high alert after three Islamic terrorists killed 17 people in a series of terror attacks in Paris last month.
Amedy Coulibaly was shot dead by police following the Kosher supermarket siege on January 9 - two days after a massacre at Charlie Hebdo magazine in the French capital.

Last week, a man was arrested after three soldiers guarding a Jewish community centre in France were attacked with a knife.
