The President of the Republic has just addressed the nation in his tradtional December 31st speech. A speech which dwelled unsurprisingly on two key issues: Security and the Economy.
President Paul Biya extensively spoke on the incursions of Boko Haram on Cameroonian soil which gathered steam in 2014. This he stated was not to be tolerated as our nation has responded with its military might, to fight the terrorist organisation, that does not subscribe to the values of a fraternal society. The Head of State thus paid glowing tribute to the Defense Forces.
President Paul Biya then spoke on the state of the nation's economy, stating that most of the projects stated in his 2013 December 31st address, were achieved this year. Notably,
- Significant progress in health with free treatment of malaria(simple and complicated) in children under five, as well as construction of three important hospitals in Yaounde, Douala and Sangmelima,
-Creation of close to 300,000 jobs in 2014, against the projected 250,000.
-Giant structural projects being implemented or already achieved such as the Kribi Gas fire plant and port, and hydroelectricity dams.
-The 50th Anniversary of Reunification in Buea, which has transformed Buea and it's surrounding towns.
The Head of state's vision for 2015 (and coming years), was clearly spelled out. To jump start Cameroon's growth, he has instructed his ministers to implement a 3-year Emergency Plan. A plan which is expected to meet the country's needs in the areas of urban development, health, agriculture, roads, water, energy, low cost housing and security. President Paul Biya emphasised that it must meet most urgent needs of our populations nation wide.
The president also spoke on the importance of industrial development, increasing private investment, improving on the execution rate of the Public Investment Budget, and the neccesity for the administration to cut down spending.
President Paul Biya ended his speech with a call on all Cameroonians to spare a thought, as they get ready to celebrate the New Year, for the soldiers who have fallen while defending fatherland, those suffering physical and psychological pain, and their families living in anguish and worry
