Yaounde Military Garison Gets First Female Battalion Commander

History is currently being made in the Cameroon military. The first ever female commander of the 1st Command and Support Battalion of the Yaounde Garison, was installed today March 16, 2015. She is 52 year old Colonel Nga Owona Philomene.
She's been in the military for 26 years. Holds 2 university degrees, is currently studying for a PhD, a lecturer of Gender and Development in the Yaounde 1 University, has undergone several trainings abroad, prominently at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, U.S.A, was deployed for 18 months on an African Union mission to Darfour. Simply outstanding. Spoke with this lady for a few minutes today, and I was impressed. Her message to the women: Hard work, nothing is given to you on a platter of gold, you have to earn it.
Congratulations to her, and to all other women trailblazers in the military, like Col. Bella Nkoto Anne (pictured below), appointed Legion Commander In the South Region, who will be installed tomorrow Tuesday Marc h 17, 2015.
