Burkina Faso, Protesters Demand Resignation Of President

Embattled Burkina Faso President, Blaise Compaore, has refused to step down one day after demonstrators in Burkina Faso took to the streets to protest the president's move to extend his 27 year stay in power. Angry demonstrators set the Burkina Faso parliament building on fire, and also ravaged the national television station. 

The opposition is saying that about 30 people have been killed by riot police who are said to be firing live ammunition and tear gas, while 100 are injured.

Compaore initially declared a state of emergency, but later called it off on state television a few hours after.

He has however refused to step down, stating that he is open to "talks"

It is not clear who is currently in power in the country.

The army announced on Thursday that it had seized power, but a frontline opposition leader Benewende ,  says this is tantamount to a coup d'état. He says the people will only accept a complete resignation of Blaise Compaore
