Lightning Kills University of Buea Student in Kumbo



The 2nd year student of the university of Buea, Etienne Leinyuy, met an untimely death, struck by lightning, on August 04, 2015, while playing football at the Catholic School Bajing, Tobin, Kumbo in
the North West Region. Cameroon Tribune reports that the young man was with his younger brother, Clifford Leinyuy, when the incident occurred.

According to Cliford Leinyuy, the strike tore Etienne’s clothes and also burnt parts of his shoes. Other players who were lightly hit by the lightning bolt recovered from the shock soon after and did not have go to hospital.
Cliford, a Form Four student, said after the lightning struck, he was the first person who rushed to his brother’s assistance. He said the deceased murmured a few words to him which were not quite clear before he died while being rushed to hospital on a motorbike. The residence of Mrs. Florence Leinyuy, a widow, was filled with mourners and sympathisers soon after news of the son’s death broke out.
Touched by the sudden death of Etienne Leinyuy, the mother requested mourners to pray that the incident will not weaken her faith. According to her, the late son was supposed to move to second year in the University of Buea come the 2015-2016 school year. Meanwhile, the remains of Etienne Leinyuy were buried at Bamngoiy on August 5, 2015, after a funeral mass in the local Catholic Church.
